Two-Piano Dances

Miki Yumihari - Piano

Anthony Hewitt - Piano

Two-piano concerts have always proved a winner at past festivals, the famed ‘Piano Duels’ with Martin Roscoe & Anthony Hewitt being almost a regular fixture. We are delighted to bring back this bravura format with Anthony in a programme full of elegance and excitement. With the exception of Mozart/Grieg’s Sonata ‘Facile’, where Grieg daringly adds rich and romantic harmonies to the original score, this programme has its roots in dance music.

Listen out for the dark humour of Danse Macabre, the extravagance and tonal chaos of La Valse , the exotic themes in Polovtsian Dances, and the razzmatazz of the South American Braziliera and Samba dances in the Scaramouche suite. Arensky’s Suite also contains two dances, and has its roots in Russian folk music. The melancholy Romance flows into a glittering Waltz, and ends with a light-hearted and hugely entertaining Polonaise.
