The Gillam family have been providing fine food and excellent service in Ulverston since 1892, when John James Gillam opened his cash & wholesale grocers on Market Street, Ulverston. Since then generations of the Gillam family have worked in the business until it closed in 1994.

In 2006 Doug Gillam (J J Gillam's great great grandson) and his wife, Shirley, renovated a building directly opposite the old shop and opened Gillam's tearooms. It brings the family name back to Ulverston and offers the same quality and service that the Gillam family is famous for.
